Indian Head/ Buffalo Five-Cents, 1913-1938

Indian Head nickel with a bison on the reverse always called the Buffalo Nickel now. The designer James Earle Fraser was a well-known sculptor in private sector. The Native American portrait was a life composition of three models. The bison was assumably modelafter "Black Diamond" in New York City Central Park Zoo. There were two distinguish design feature, bison on a mound and bison on a reduced thinner line.
Matte Proof coins were made from 1913 to 1916.
